(Recipe Inspired by Oster’s Deluxe Bread and Dough Maker)
Free of eggs, sesame, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, soy, dairy
1 ½ cup warm water
3 TBLSP olive oil
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
1 ½ cups white flour
1 ½ tsp salt
1 TBSP regular active dry yeast
1 TBSP sugar (if made by hand)
For bread machine:
Place all of the dough ingredients (except the yeast) into the pan, starting with the wet ingredients. Before adding the yeast, ensure that the wet ingredients are covered by the flour. Poke an indentation into the middle of the dry ingredients and pour the yeast into the indentation. Insert the bread pan into the machine and select the dough setting.
By hand:
Put ½ cup warm water into a bowl and stir in the yeast and sugar. Let sit for five minutes (will become foamy). In a separate bowl, mix the flours and salt. Add the remaining cup of water, oil and the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms. Add additional flour or water as needed until cohesive but not sticky dough forms. Mold the dough into a ball and place on a well-floured surface. Knead thoroughly (5 minutes). Use the dough to make pizza, calzones, or pizza dough rolls (see recipes).
Servings: 6-8 ($0.30/serving)
